This gal’s got sole….

Hi all.  I’m excited to tell you about…

River Maria Urke interviewed a variety of women, over a three year span, about their infatuation with shoes.  Women’s Obsession with Shoes (WOS) is a collection of the stories they shared.   These are fun stories that spark memories.  As we all know, a woman’s love for shoes has no boundaries.  (My poor feet will attest that a size 10 foot will, indeed, fit into a lovely, sleek, size 8, shoe.)  Well, I’m prying off those stilettos, putting on my Birkenstocks, and hurrying over to River’s blog, June 1st, to celebrate her tour launch.  Come with me.

Then, stop back here, June 6th, for more about WOS.

I've been nominated for a Beautiful Blogger Award

Yippee!!!  Thank you, my dear friend, Amelia Curzon, for this lovely award.   And, now... here are ten positootly riveting things about me you (really didn’t) need ( or want) to know…

1.     I’m detail oriented, but not neurotic about it. I used to start routine housework and it would turn into cleaning corners, cupboards, baseboards: the whole 9 yards. Now, a quick wipe around the potted plants (in the front) will do.
2.     I love to laugh. I value a good sense of humor. We all need to laugh more.
3.     I’m not sure what I want to be when I grow up…still sorting that out. There are just too many interesting possibilities.
4.     I swore, years ago — when I finished my Masters— that I’d never set foot on a college campus again. Now, here I am, a full-time student, taking courses that interest me and loving every minute of it.
5.     I held a hummingbird in my hand once. It had flown into a window and was stunned. I’ll never forget the experience.
6.     I wonder if I’m a good Mom, most of the time. I never had a role model…so, it’s a guess.
7.     I’m a cloud gazer. I could lie in a field and gaze at clouds all day (shellacked in bug spray, of course).

And here are the lucky folks I’m passing this torch to…. Go forth and multiply?

Jasmine  because she deserves an award for being kind.
Claire Carey   because this may cheer her and make her feel appreciated.
Nancy Jill Thames    because she's my bud and I love her.
Carolyn Arnold        because I admire her and want to be pals.
Angelique Jurd       because I love her sense of humour.
Rochelle Campbell      because I want to encourage her.
Amelia Curzon      because I read the rules and you can be a 3-timer.

This is what happens when you are nominated:

You write seven facts about yourself,

You link to the blog of the person who nominated you,

You link to seven bloggers who you think deserve the award,

You let those bloggers know they have been nominated.

Piece of bloggin cake! I can't wait to learn  7 things about each of you.  :)

Confessions of the Human Kind

My halo slipped
a bit today…
I judged a man
for what he wore,
without a thought,
without a doubt,
his worth, or lack of it,
for sure
I felt I knew.
His temple was in disrepair,
A shoddy remnant
of a time when
time was good
and he was strong,
that time is gone,
As is his youth.
He squared his shoulders,
smiled at me, a little smile
that spoke of shame,
Then looked away,
at better days,
 He is no stranger
to the truth.

My glance can be direct I’m told,
It’s often bold. It cuts beneath
to what is there and lays it bare
in search of truth.
I searched again, and saw it there,
beneath the stains upon his brow
a gleaming light,
a subtle glow that’s
only seen by those who know.
I saw on him the mark of one
whom God has blessed to
breathe his air
I saw the soul
in need of care.
The truth is not a sacred cow
to trot out Sunday’s…
and talk about.
It lives and breathes
right hear and now
in that man’s plight.
His need is mine,
his joy is mine,
His life divine.
That is the truth.

When is it Hip to be Square?

Don’t be one of those folks who rush right in and say, ‘never’!   Square is good…square is solid… Sure, a square won’t fit well inside a circle, but so what?  The last hip thing a circle did popped off your shirt and rolled away already.   So, let’s talk about squares.  Squares make great buttons (Stay with me here…the logic is circular.) and blog buttons are a good way to promote your blog.  Promoting your blog is definitely hip!
Yeah.  But, what’s hip about a blog button … a cone shaped, circle-loving, naysayer might ask.  This is where I close the circle.  All right, squares aren’t inherently ‘hip’ —they have to overcome Society’s infatuation with curvy shapes—but, when used properly, they are a cool foundation for friendship and support.  Here’s how the whole thing works:  I post your button on my page, and you post my button on yours.  Each of us benefits from a win-win.  Love abounds!  It is always hip to show love and support, right?   So, get off your butt-on and make a blog button so we can support one another.
